End of first week of second term - 21:54 GMT January 20, 2006

It is amazing how fast time flies, not even a blink of an eye and a week has passed since the end of my exams.

Here is a summary of what happened:
Tuesday, 17th January 2006 - My first day of second term. The lectures I had were on Computer Science Logic and Programming Language Design. Both of them were very good. The Computer Science Logic lecturer was very good in cracking out logic jokes, thus making the lecture very interesting indeed. It was a long day as I started from 12pm(starts from 10am from next week onwards) and ends at 5pm, with an hour's break in between.

Wednesday, 18th January 2006 - Badminton was cancelled, so I practically wasted my time during the morning at home playing computer games, but later in the afternoon I went to town to clear a lot of my headaches, involving banks and getting myself a referral for my CV and also getting settling my train ticket stuff. I had to go back to my school to get my referral. Over there, I waited for almost an hour, and I have to say, it was well worth the wait. The deputy head teacher was more than willing to help me and my brother out, saying that "The school will always back you no matter what". It was a very much appreciated, seeing that I have not been back to school for almost three years, and I was not expecting such a warm reception. My maths teacher, who is now the assistant headteacher of the school as well, had a brief chat to me and my brother.

Thursday, 19th January 2006 - Another day off, and I spent this day mostly on programming over PHP and Java, as well as finishing off my homework that was given on Tuesday. Nothing else really.

Today was another day of lectures. What a relief after exams indeed as I am far more relaxed now, after being mentally pushed to the limit(I have not suffered such a thing for some time already). But there are yet more challenges to come in the future.

Exams over, new term approaches soon enough - 11:57 GMT January 16, 2006

Finally, exams were over on the 13th of January. I was meant to make a post earlier but I was not in the mood to do so(post-exam effect?). Here is a quick summary of the examinations:

Monday, 9th January 2006 - My first paper, which is on computer networking, and which contains a mix of basic physics and mathematics. It was either a paper you can do or the other way round, and it was the one of the shortest papers seeing that the calculations involved were not lengthy. Fortunately I was able to deal with the paper although I made a few mistakes. But nonetheless the difficulty of the paper this year has been increased.

Tuesday, 10th January 2006 - My second paper, which was on mathematics related to computing. Seeing that some of the topics had been covered in my sixth form, this was one of the subjects that I was quite comfortable with. But nonetheless they made the paper harder this time round, increasing the overall difficulty by 10-25%. This paper was a race against time, and thankfully, I managed to beat the clock by five minutes before time.

Wednesday, 11th January 2006 - My third paper, which was database. Having had two tough papers, I was worried about this one being tougher too. Thankfully it was not, and it was pretty much doable, although I had to admit I messed it up slightly.

Friday, 13th January 2006 - Last paper, which was on software architectural patterns. It was all right, but I cannot say anything since I will not be able to know 100% if my answer is right or not.

After the paper, I and my friends went to Waterfront, our popular student pub at the campus I am studying in. Over there, I had a Guiness, Jack Daniel's with coke, and some beer. To me, that was quite a fair bit of drinks. The strangest thing happened was when I was talking to my friends, and someone tapped onto my shoulder. I thought "Who could it be?" and it was some girl whom I met(only twice) last year. She just said "Hi" to me. I do not even know(or have forgotten) her name, so I felt a bit bad. Nonetheless we then went to Chinatown to have dinner. It was a great relief to see these exams through.

So, I have been doing nothing over the weekends except lazing around. Overall, I felt that I have done better at this stage compared to last year(hopefully), but time will only tell.

Entering the year 2006 - 00:45 GMT January 01, 2006

It is a new year now. I know, most of the people on the other side of the world had long celebrated it. I watched the fireworks in London on TV, and all I can say that it was extremely impressive. I wished I saw them in person.

Anyway, here is a short summary of 2005(I do not have much time to write a detailed one since exams are just around the corner now):

Positives:
My summer holidays - It has always been something to remember about, but 2005 was different, as I had a mini reunion with my old school friends whom I know since the age of seven. It was a memorable thing indeed.
My university results - OK, admittedly I was disappointed by it, but it was quite decent actually, so it was always a good thing.

Negatives:
The departure of my grandfather - This came to me as a real surprise as I never expected it. He passed away all of a sudden, and I really felt down about it(I will keep to your final words you said to me in person, I promise).
7/7 Terrorist attack on London - When I first heard the news of the bombing, I was pretty concerned because I was in Malaysia enjoying myself. Having heard the news, my holidays was partially ruined because of that. My prayers go to the victims.

That is all folks, time for me to go now, have a good year ahead everybody! biggrin

Dreams..... - 23:33 GMT December 30, 2005

With new year's eve coming soon, I thought I would take another short break off revision and post something that you might find rather interesting.

Admittedly, revision has been taking its toll on me over the past few days. I did not get good sleep until lately. Then, I have been talking to my friend on MSN about dreams. We were discussing it and I told him why I believe in them. This is because I had two dreams that came true within less than a month.

My first dream was, I dreamt that I will flop my chemistry and physics a few days before I pick my sixth form exam results from school. When I woke up, I dismissed it, thinking "Aha, that is not going to happen!". But nonetheless when I went to school to pick my results, my chemistry and physics had exactly the same marks as they were in my dreams!

After that disaster, I was sending emails to universities for appeal of another review over my results. KCL(King's College London, where I am studying now) was included in the list.

Having sent those emails, I had another dream. This time I dreamt of seeing (I was not inside the dream, but I just saw it) people within KCL adminstration office discussing my application, and suddenly someone said "Let this guy in." after some discussion.

When I woke up, I said to myself "Oh well that is not going to come true, extremely unlikely seeing how bad I flopped in my exams."

To my surprise, a few days later I got a letter from KCL saying that I got accepted by them. I was happy when I got the letter, as it was a big relief. But I never really appreciated that dreams can come true until today. I do believe in them now.

So to my fellow colleagues who are reading this, you now know that you have someone in your university who was driven by his dream(kind of biggrin).

That is all really, I did have some weird dreams lately, but I would think they were rather irrelevant and meaningless, so no point for me to write them here.

Merry Christmas! - 01:13 GMT December 25, 2005

Merry Christmas everyone! Time for some break off revision I suppose and write something.

So what has been happening over the past few days? Nothing, just revision, revision, and..... you got it, revision!

I have been stuck inside my home for several days now, but I cannot help it because of revision. Oh well, at least it is Christmas.

That is all really, nothing much to report apart from revision.
